 Introduction to the Author  J. D. Ratcliff was born in 1903 and died in 1973. His full name was John Drury Ratcliff. Abdul Kalam, in full Avul Fakir Jainulabbdeen Abdul Kalam, (born October 15, 1931, Rameshwaram, India---died July 27, 2015, Shillong), Indian scientist and politician who played a leading role in the development of India's missile and nuclear weapons programs. He was president of India from 2002 to 2007.       Kalam earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology and in and in 1958 joined the Defence Research and Development Organization, (DRDO). In 1969, he moved to the Indian Space Research Organization, where he was project director of the SL V-III, the first satellite launch vehicle that was both designed and product in India.  A Brief Life-Sketch Joseph Addison was born in 1672 in a Wilshire Rectory. His father was a clergyman. He was a educated at Charterhouse and Oxford. There he earned fame. He was known at first as a poet. In 1699 he obtained a pension of 300 a year on Which he travelled abroad and fit himself for diplomatic work. On returning to England he gradually rose to the high office. In 1705, he became Commissioner of Excise. Later on he was elected to the Parliament He died in 1719.         Joseph Addison was famous in his days as a poet and a dramatist, but to the readers of the succeeding generations he has appealed as an essayist rather than as a poet or a dramatist. During his own times Addison won an unrivalled position as a poet by 'The Campaign' (1704) in which he eulogised Marlborough and pictured him on a scale of epic grandeur.  A Brief Life-Sketch   Birth and Parentage: Charles Lamb was born in Crown office, on 10th of Feb, 1775. His father, John Lamb was a clerk to a member of parliament. John Lamb was gifted with seven children of whom only three got blessings of God to remain in this world. Charles Lamb was the youngest child of the large family. John Lamb (1763-1821) was the elder brother of Lamb. Mary Anne (1764-1847), the Bridget Elia of the Essay was the elder sister of Lamb. His mother, Elizabeth Field, was the daughter of 'The great grand mother Field.' She lived in a great house. She was a housekeeper in Norfolk.          Introduction to R.K. NARAYAN       R.K. Narayan (born 1906) is one of the best known of the Indo-English writers. He created the imaginary town of Malgudi, where realistic characters in a typically Indian setting lived amid unpredictable events. Rasipuram Krishnaswami Narayanswami, who preferred the shortened name R.K. Narayan, was born in Madras, India, on Oct. 10, 1906. His father, an educator, travelled frequently, and his mother was frail,, so Narayan was raised in Madras by his grandmother and an uncle. His grandmother inspired in young Narayan a passion for language and for people. He attended the Christian Mission School, where he said, he learned to love the Hindu God's simply because the Christian chaplain ridiculed them.
